When I was about 12 years old I used to suffer from migraines and if you’ve ever had a migraine you’ll know all about the pain and the debilitating effects.
After a little trial and error I discovered that cutting cheese and chocolate out of my diet stopped the migraines.
During my early teens I gradually reintroduced both cheese and chocolate to my diet without problems.
Yesterday I was given a reminder of what it’s like to have a migraine. I felt ill all day and was close to taking to my bed and sleeping it off. It wasn’t a full blown migraine but I woke with a splitting headache, felt nauseous and light made it all so much worse, so I’m calling it a migainette – a prelude to a migraine.
I’m not sure what triggered the migrainette but the previous day I’d eaten much more chocolate than I should have. I went to bed with a mild headache (which I attributed to the chocolate) and woke up feeling like someone had cleaved my skull with a hatchet. The cause of the headache could of course have been anything, and when I think about it, the most likely cause is dehydration, as I haven’t had much to drink over the last two days.
Whatever the reason, I find that today, I have an aversion to chocolate! I want to eat it but I can’t. I don’t want to risk a headache like the one I had yesterday, never mind a full blown migraine.
What the hell am I going to do with all the chocolate in my house if I’m not going to eat it? It’s a real headache, if not quite a migraine.
