What is the secret to my weight loss?
Crash dieting!
Oh yes you read that right. Crash dieting.
Funnily enough it was being sick for a whole month earlier in the year that got me thinking along these lines.
I reasoned that if I could be ill enough causing me not to be able to eat, and still find the strength to recover, I could survive a series of crash diets.
A few things have come together to lead me to this conclusion, it wasn’t just the illness.
I read about an American General who ate just once a day. His name is McChrystal, and whilst I haven’t seen his approach in any great detail, I take it at face value that he eats one meal and nothing else.
And don’t laugh, but my dogs eat once a day in the evening and they are happy and fit and healthy.
There are also plenty of stories of people surviving without food for long periods of time.
Anyway, detail isn’t necessary. It’s possible to survive and thrive on one meal a day – even if that isn’t desirable in the long term.
I got severely bored with the steady dance of losing a pound and putting a pound back on, losing a pound and putting a pound back on. Dull. Dull. Dull. And very discouraging when you’re trying to lose a substantial amount of weight. It’s basically purgatory, because the end is always so far away.
The pound dance is something I’m happy to live with once I’ve reached my goal. But it’s a killer when trying to reach it from a distance.
What I discovered is that by throwing all my energy and will power into short bursts of massive action, I’ve been able to lose the fat in a way that keeps me interested and motivated to do it.
I’m closer to my goal than I ever have been and I don’t doubt that I’ll make it.
As far as weight loss is concerned, I’ve stopped believing what everyone else tells me and started doing what works for me. Only time will tell of course but it’s looking like a winner to me.
There’s plenty more to say about this but I’ll keep it for another time.

Anwar Sadat – The Egyptian Leader ate only one time per day and then it was just boiled organic chicken breast. He drank tea and water – mostly water, because his stomach had been so ruined by torture in prison, but he found this to be clarifying food, that helped him think and function. He was assassinated but had almost no disease properties in his body.
I am still working on what works for me…I have been helping others find their best diet for years – now it is my turn. I find fasting with only water at least once a month, just calms my body right down and cuts the cravings. I wish I could exercise more but right now my physical response is too much cortisol and adrenaline release…everything must be slow and purposeful.
I think I do not know how to just BE
Good for you – I am happy for your results and findings.
Hi Patricia, I confess I hadn’t really thought of the long term benefits. I saw it more as a means to an end. I suppose there are plenty of people who survive on liquid diets alone.
I wouldn’t want that. As with Blogger Dad below, I like my food too much.
My only exercise is walking. I’ve discovered that I can only concentrate on one thing at once, so I elected to deal with the eating.
Hey, who said you could use a photo of my ripped six pack?!
I’ve read similar reports about people living on sub-1000 calorie diets and such, claiming to live longer.
While it might be a good way to prolong your life, what kind of life are you having eating raisins and leaves? I’m no foodie, but man, I do love food too much to abandon it.
Having said that, I’d love to have that kind of discipline. If only I were disciplined enough to have it.
BD when you snet me those photos you told me I could use them how ever I want.
I promise you I have no intention of living on 1000 cals a day. Just like you, I love my food.
I’ll explain in more detail why this is working for me in while, but I want to assure you this is not a long term wayof life for me, and I can tolerate it because I’m doing it in short intense bursts.
Thing is, I’m desperate to look like you do in the picture above.
Ah, finally! You’ve brought back a little nudity on the blog. I take it those abs are a product of the crash dieting? I lost a visible amount of weight from just being sick and eating one meal a day for about 4 days this week, so I totally believe that works!
I like to believe those abs are the product of the odd McDonalds and maybe a few beers on a Saturday, but I’m probably deluding myself.
I’m so close to my target weight now that a good dose of flu should see me reach it within a week. LOL
