Do You Get Your Groceries Delivered?

Post image for Do You Get Your Groceries Delivered?

I remember being about 6 or 7 years old and my mother dragging my younger sister and I off to the supermarket on a Saturday morning. Back in the 70s we travelled on the bus because having even one car was a luxury, having two cars was practically unheard of. For me it was fun but for my mum it was probably a nightmare.

My poor mother.

Whilst she may not have killed to have a home delivery service I’ll bet she’d have happily maimed to get her groceries delivered to the door.

Fortunately I don’t need to maim anyone, or even hurt their feelings to benefit. Quite a few of the supermarkets in the UK offer this service for a small fee but thanks to the availability of voucher sharing on the Internet the delivery cost is cancelled out.

I’m sure there are some downsides to not walking around the aisles, but I’m struggling to think what they might be.

If only I could get them to unpack my shopping and put it away, that would be marvellous!

We have several stores that deliver and now a company that makes your food and sends the containers to your door and you just store, heat and serve. (This is very helpful to my brother who is having liver failure problems and no energy to cook – specialized meals just are delivered 2x a week to his door) But this service is expense and no Internet vouches either. Just more cars to more parking lots….
My CSA (community Supported Agriculture ) box is delivered about 10 blocks a way – I love it….and after all these years of cooking and cleaning, I wish I had someone to clean and put he stuff away too :) Lucky you
If I am cooking something special I do like to pick my own delights, but now with my box I just make up what comes…lots of stir fry!

As far as I know we haven’t got any CSA schemes but it sounds wonderful. Having fresh locally grown produce would be wonderful. There is one company I know of that delivers organic produce in a similar way so I suppose I could give that a try. Stir fry is a lovely idea for this evening’s meal!! :)

I really wish that were an option here, I remember many times almost being in tears when my husband would go away on business trips and I’d be left to try to go grocery shopping with a newborn and 2 or 3 small children in tow.

I really do enjoy grocery shopping but it’s very rare that there is a good time for me to go by myself that doesn’t cut into having family time.

Going shopping with kids in tow leads to other people getting judgemental. One kid they’ll tolerate. Even two. But take three or more shopping and you get all sorts of looks ranging from pity to contempt. Not always. But too often for comfort.

That’s where having a lockable cupboard under the stairs comes in handy. No kids. no judgement. :D
