Post image for Watch me succeed, or watch me fail, either way it should be good

At the start of the year I made some rash promises on this blog. I said that I was going to concentrate on nothing else but getting a six pack and using the computer to bring some money into the household.

I haven’t done either of those things. Instead I let myself become distracted and in true ‘man style’ I went off to hide in my shed to build something.

When men are in their sheds building things, they can’t be disturbed until it’s done. In addition they can’t be relied upon to do anything else at all during their self imposed exile.

That pretty much sums up why I haven’t been here very much and why I haven’t achieved any of my goals.

I felt a bit bad for disappearing after my last post – a meme in which I tagged a boat load of people but then failed to follow it up by letting those people know.

When I set up Selfish Blogger it was with irony very much in mind. The last thing I wanted to be as a blogger was selfish. My intention for this site was to link out to my friends – the people I’ve got to know over he last two years blogging and tweeting – and rave about what they were doing.

The problem with that is it’s damned hard work and time consuming. That’s not to say it isn’t worthwhile, I certainly believe it is, but it wasn’t realistic to make it a priority. My family needed my attention.

They needed me to either be the 100% focused stay at home dad, or a bread winner. I wasn’t either.

I’ve explored so many avenues to try and make a living online but so far I either haven’t travelled far enough down them or I’ve come to dead ends.

So whilst it’s true that I’ve abandoned my plans for a six pack, I didn’t stop trying to find a way to regain my status as a bread winner.

But instead of aiming for the modest goals I set in January of $100 dollars by the end of January or $300 dollars by the end of February, I’ve gone super extreme.

Now my goal is to earn $1,000,000 by the end of the year. That’s ONE MILLION DOLLARS in case you missed it.

You think I’m crazy, don’t you?

I know you think I’m crazy and you’re tempted to stop reading right now, but please keep reading. This isn’t a hair-brained scheme, it has great merit and is totally realistic – but I will need help!

For the first time since I’ve been online I’ve moved away from the idea of throwing up a blog and monetising it through banner ads or affiliate programs. I’ve actually set up a site where people will (hopefully :-) ) pay me for providing a service.

I’m still at the stage where I’m calling it a project, but if it proves to be successful it could easily spawn a business.

The site is called MisterGoodGuy.com (which is totally not ironic in the least – I really am a good guy! ;) )and there I’ve started a project called the Mona Lisa Million. Basically, I’m going to auction off sections of the Mona Lisa that will then link back to the winning bidders site.

I know something like that has been done before, but I’m adding much more to it. And I’m also going to give away most of the proceeds.

Just before you go over and have a look at the site (and I hope you will), I’ve set up another image here to demonstrate how the links work.

I’ve included a lot of my friends on here, but I already know I’ve missed a few. Some of the sites I used to visit are no longer working and others were next to impossible to load. If I’ve missed you out, don’t be too miffed. Just give me a slap upside the head with a wet fish and remind me how lucky I am to know you.

So here you go:

Friendly Flowers

Please wait for the image to load.

This image is also featured on a sample page which I’m going to refer to regularly, and it includes a list of all the links shown on the image.

I’m going to write to each of you to ask if you like to change anything in terms of the mouse over image or the mouseover text. I’m also going to ask you whether you want to supply a 100 word text about you, your site, or about a subject connected with your site which I’ll then publish on MisterGoodGuy.

Please do pop on over and have a look at the site. Let me know what you think. It’s still a work in progress but it’s taken me five weeks to get it from concept to it’s current state and frankly I had to stop finding excuses to launch it.

You might want to start with the post entitled Introducing the Mona Lisa Million.

So really, please tell me what you think and if you could help me out by getting a conversation started over there, I’d be grateful.

Oh, and if you could see your way to linking to it or sharing it I’d be even more grateful. So grateful that I WON’T send you a picture of me wearing bright orange speedos and a smile. And if you do link, please let me know so that I can thank you. :D

Thanks

Dave.
